Immigration Voice is organizing a nationwide call-the-lawmakers drive. We request members to call each and every senator and congress member. This drive will precede the �Advocacy Day(s)� in Washington, DC and �Meet the lawmaker� drive in local districts. Members can use this phone call conversation with their local lawmaker offices to follow-up with lawmakers when they meet during the break just after the Memorial day.
Don�t miss this opportunity:
This is the perfect time to call the lawmakers. The bill needs a push via support from people like us and all lawmakers needs to be encouraged and urged to help us. There are indications that there will be lot of activity on immigration issues in both House and Senate after the Memorial day. We need to make those activities go in our favor and not die like the CIR bill in 2006 & 2007. Thus it is important to starting calling lawmakers, starting from the Senate members. i just returned from an infopass meeting... the guy i talked to said that they recently have a directive from the DHS/USCIS that they want to separate the legal stuff from the illegal stuff and hence they are planning to adjudicate a record number of EB apps in the next quarter or two... does anyone else concur? is this true or were my ears just ringing in that meeting?

IV Core,
What is IV's position on ammendents for people who have filed PERM only and have not filed I-140 yet.
There shall be an ammendement which allows these people to keep using old system(EB) to get their green card.
It is totally un-fair to null and void their application and get them into new point based systems and force them to face long delays.
Please let us know.

I come from a nuclear family in India and see no reason why my kid cannot develop into a good citizen the way my parents made sure I did..........
I learnt at a very young age that living with your cousins/uncles/aunts is not necessarily a guarantee of being close........ I am a lot closer to family I never lived with in the same city than I am to family who lived a few blocks from where we did.........
It is all in how the parents mold the environment for their kids. if we as parents fail in our duty towards our kids, does not matter where you live, we will do a great disservice to society..........
Sure, I dont think there is any one correct answer for this dilemma. Most of us are going to base our decisions on our personal circumstances and hope that they turn out correct in the long run :)

If you pass substantial presence test and treated as resident for tax purposes, you get the check from IRS. Mots of us file 1040A for taxes. Only few of us do not qualify as residents for tax purposes file 1040NR, those don't get.
If your spouse doesn't work and have a child, then you may qualify as head of household and sometimes get bigger check.
Only few desi's will not qualify for this check but whoever stays here for more than couple of years and filed taxes in 2006, don't worry.

I don't know much about the process, I just came to America less than 1 year back, but I know my lawyer was supposed to mail application to reach on July 2, 2007 instead he made a mistake to reach on June 29, 2007 because he said July 1, 2007 was a Sunday so he would rather be early than late. USCIS accepted and receipted me.
I am the manager in my brother's gas station in LA. He got a investor visa when he came from Punjab but now he is citizen. I am on EB3. I have Bachelors in Business Administration from Panjab University in Chandigarh. I can't be EB1 or EB2, I barely made it through college :D

EB3 India setp 2006 wasnt even current in Jun 2007....

But why should we lose the PD that we've been hanging on to for so long. For all we know, they might retrogress EB2 next - with USCIS, there's no room to take chances. I'm on my 10th yr here and don't want anything to go wrong at this point.
Have you given a thought or spoken to a lawyer about starting EB2 PERM when your EB3 140 is pending? After your EB2 PERM is approved, you have 6 months before interfiling your EB2 140 with your EB3 PD. I think that is long enough for your EB3 140 too be approved.

I agree with you the perfect solution is to remove the country cap, but we dont live in a perfect world. What I am saying is that all 4 items "together" should be a minimum. I agree if the country cap is increased to 10% with everything else being the same, it makes NO difference.
In general, anything "unlimited" (read cap exempt) seems to be a NO-NO with the conservatives.

only solution is get rid of the country cap. Before anybody from ROW goes into a lecture about "diversity" blah blah blah please think with a rational mind. Getting rid of country quota is the only solution. things like increasing it to 10% etc will only reduce the backlog time for Indian applicants from 25 years to maybe 18 years.

I think the advantage of LLC against Sole Prop is about liability.
If some one sues your business, LLC offers you protection, but Sole prop. may not.
If you are on EAD, you can start the business in your wife's name. Now the risk is that she will run away and take the business with her; can't say that would really be a bad thing.
S-corp is much more complex compared to LLC.

You may want to get in touch with core members if you have questions. They are very prompt in answering questions.Such posts will only create roadblocks to the momentum created on the forum by some of our members. It is time to help rather than ask. We have seen in the lameduck session how close we came to getting the bill passed. If IV was not there, even this much was not possible. We give thousands of dollars to our lawyers, can't we simply give 20 dollars to IV without asking questions and believing in this cause?
